Staff Officer's article for December 2012

The Masonic Development Course

Brothers near and far: As some of you may know, I was raised in Grand Master Fitje's One Day Class in 2003. Being raised in the One Day Class was like drinking from the proverbial fire hose, fortunately, our Staff Officer, now District Deputy, RW Gary Visconti persuaded me to participate in the Masonic Development Course, MDC.

The course was given at the old Masonic Lodge in Fulton and in addition to myself and a couple of other neophytes there were several Legends of Oswego county Freemasonry in attendance. The course was invaluable in helping me to glean a basic understanding of our ritual its history and symbolism. It also enabled me to become acquainted with several of the leaders of the district. I was impressed that these men were willing to give up their time to help get me started in Freemasonry.

I will be presenting the MDC in January and February. It requires three sessions covering each of the three degrees. Each session should last 2 to 3 hours. Masters, this is a perfect opportunity to light that spark of masonic curiosity in your new brothers, continue their education and help make them more active and productive members of your lodge. I need to have some idea of how many brothers are interested so that I can get the materials ordered so let me know as soon as possible.

While I have your attention, it really helps to have a few seasoned brothers to bring their experience to the course as well so If you would like to get involved, please let me know. When I get a feeling for interest in the district I will set dates as I may need to run classes on a rotating basis. I look forward to seeing you all in lodge.
