Brothers & Friends: As you read this. The holiday season is coming to a close and I truly hope that it was a joyous time for you, your family and friends. We have moved into that quiet time for Freemasonry in the Oswego district when many of our brothers have moved to warmer and sunnier climes. Those of us who choose to 'Tough it Out' or those who actually like winter remain behind to tend the fires.
I would suggest that it is an excellent time to do some Masonic Traveling. Perhaps even outside the district. Look through this copy of The Word, find a lodge that is meeting and plan a visit. If you are one who always seems to be assigned a chair, this could give you a chance to be a sideliner and watch someone else do the ritual for a change. I firmly believe that one of the best ways to learn ritual is to watch and listen to it proficiently performed.
To further increase your enjoyment, take a Brother or two with you, that way if you get stuck there will be helping hands and sympathetic ears. There are four districts that are covered by The Word and my plan is to select a lodge in each district and visit it while my lodge is dark in January and February. Something along this line might make an excellent New Year's Resolution, one that you stand a pretty good chance of keeping.
Also, don't forget the Stars. I'm sure that any Chapter that is meeting would love to see you show up. Many of us are members and even if you are not you can easily be Obligated which allows you to attend their meetings.
Lastly, I would like to wish all of you, my Masonic Brothers, a Happy, Healthy and prosperous New Year.
